Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy is located in Middleton, Leeds.

The newest member of the Cockburn Multi-academy Trust opened in September 2021 as a ‘free school’. Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy, named after former Cockburn School student awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery in WW1, is sited in Middleton, Leeds.

The first cohort of Year 7 students were the founding members of the academy, and in September 2022 they welcomed their second cohort of Year 7 students. They will have a full school with Years 7 to 11 in September 2025.

The Phase 1 temporary building is a state-of-the-art modern school building that opened in September 2021 with Phase 2 of the school building planned for September 2023. The Phase 2 building opened in September 2023 and is another exceptional modern school building for the south Leeds community.

Like the other Cockburn secondary schools, the vision is to create opportunities within and beyond the curriculum to enable each student to become confident, independent and successful citizens in modern Britain.

Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy is the trust’s third secondary school in south Leeds and they continue to bring the tried and tested track record of systems and experienced staff, focusing on teaching and learning as the single most important thing that they do. They design challenging and innovative learning experiences for students so they are highly engaged. Their enriching schemes of learning will inspire students with a passion for lifelong learning.

Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy was inspected by Ofsted in June 2024. During the inspection, inspectors judged the quality of education along with behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management, as Good. Personal development, was judged to be Outstanding, leading to an overall effectiveness judgement of Good.
